South Africa – Simbavati Waterside Lodge

Simbavati Waterside Lodge is a luxury safari lodge located in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, which is situated in the Greater Kruger National Park area of South Africa.

Because Simbavati Waterside is located next to a watering hole, it offers opportunities to view wildlife coming to drink. This is especially true during the May to August dry season.

Guests here have exceptional game viewing experiences as they explore the diverse wildlife and landscapes of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. The Reserve is part of the surrounding Greater Kruger National Park.

Safari activities include both guided game drives for photographers and walking safaris, led by experienced and knowledgeable guides. Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is home to the iconic Big Five (elephant, rhinoceros, lion, leopard, and buffalo) as well as numerous other animal species, including giraffes, zebras, hyenas, and a wide array of bird species. The reserve is renowned for its excellent game viewing opportunities.

About Simbavati Waterside accommodations

The lodge offers comfortable and stylish accommodations in chalets spaced around the grounds. Each chalet features en-suite bathrooms and private verandas. Guests at Simbavati Waterside Lodge can enjoy the swimming pool, a cozy lounge area, a bar, a dining area, and a curio shop. The lodge also provides limited Wi-Fi across the property. You can browse the lodge’s website at Simbavati Lodge and Reserve.

This lodge’s outdoor space is built alongside a watering hole, fed by a borehole. Many animals gather along the riverbanks for water and bathing, providing excellent opportunities for visitors to observe and photograph wildlife in their natural habitat.

Klaserie Private Nature Reserve

Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is located in the northeastern part of South Africa, within the Greater Kruger National Park. It shares unfenced borders with both the Kruger National Park and the Timbavati Game Reserve. Klaserie Reserve covers an extensive area of approximately 148,260 acres and offers a pristine wilderness experience. It is known for its vast landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and abundant wildlife. The Nhlaralumi River crosses the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve.

The reserve offers a more exclusive and intimate safari experience compared to the neighboring Kruger National Park. The reserve has strict regulations on the number of vehicles allowed at sightings, ensuring a more private and less crowded encounter with wildlife. It is a seasonal river, meaning its flow varies throughout the year depending on rainfall patterns. The river is surrounded by lush vegetation and provides a vital water source for wildlife in the reserve.

I’m so excited to say that Simbavati Waterside is one of 4 spectacular lodges we will visit during our spring 2024 Africa Photo Safari trip. You can view a short video of the bush safaris and the lodge by clicking here.
